The Hill Country Yacht Club Youth Program was founded in 2004 under the initial leadership of Velma Smith (2004-2005). Building upon the successes of the early years is a continuing goal of the Youth Program.
The HCYC Youth Program is a great way to get your children involved in yacht club activities, introduce them boater safety, teach them respect for the water and build their confidence as they learn the joys of sailing.
Throughout the year, various activities are planned which are intended to lay the foundation for safe boating, be it sailing or power boating, and develop fundamental skills your children will carry with them for a life time. In addition, the Youth Program supports the HCYC social scene by contributing time to decorate the clubhouse for various social functions held during the year. It's a great way for the kids to get to know one another and at the same time provides them an opportunity to express their gratitude for the incredible support, friendship, and love shown to them and the Youth Program.
The various Youth Program Events include but are not limited to the following (consult the club calendar for specific order and dates as they are likely to change from year to year):
As of the date of this posting, the Youth Program currently has three Sunfish sailboats thanks to the generosity of the HCYC members and the hard work of such dedicated individuals as Velma & Birch Smith. Many others have provided time and labor to acquire and maintain the boats.
The HCYC Youth Program enjoys the great support of the HCYC membership while working with a great bunch of kids. It is truly is a rewarding experience. If you're interested in contributing some time to a very worthy cause such as the Youth Program for 2007, please contact a HCYC officer or the current Youth Program Directors for details.
