HCYC’s February has two noteworthy dates. First, Saturday, February 16th is the date for the President’s Day Race (for sailboats) and the “Be My Valentine” Steak Dinner and Party. Reservations for a requirement if you want a steak dinner see the Social Column on Page 2 for details. Second, Saturday, February 23rd is the date for a Power Boat sponsored first time event, a Wii tournament. Come checkout and participate in some realistic virtual games and activities. This event should be a lot of fun, for participants and visitors alike!

What a great fall it has been at Canyon Lake. Mild temps and steady winds have made for near perfect sailing conditions. I had the thrill of crewing on a 28’ trimaran in the Wurstfest Regatta (thanks John O’Connor). Sailing at 15 knots and burying a hull was quite a ride. Reneé and I raced Reprise for the first time in the Wild Turkey Regatta. And although we finished w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y behind the leaders (Ernie and Sue came by to ask us if we were lapping everyone else!), we had a blast. We’re hoping to gain experience and be more competitive next year.

There are two more club events scheduled for 2007. The first is the Parade of Lights on December 8th. This is always a fun event and a great way to bring in the holiday season. We’re hoping for good weather and a good member turnout. Grab your lights, decorate your boat and join in. The last event of the year is the New Year’s Eve informal pot luck dinner on December 31st. Join in to welcome in the New Year and help our new officers raise their flags at midnight.

Also, be sure mark your calendars for the 2008 Officer Installation Banquet on January 5th at Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne. You will be receiving your invitation in the mail very soon. It promises to be an evening of great food, great music and high frivolity. Please make reservations for the banquet with Carol Teat via email at carolm@satx.rr.com. She will send an acknowledgement email. If you plan to spend the night, please make your reservations for a room directly with the Inn at (800)364-2138. They have reserved some rooms at special rates for HCYC members.

It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve you, the members of HCYC. Thank you all for your trust, your support and your friendship. We have had a resilient year in spite of weather set-backs. My thanks also go out to the Executive Committee, our Appointed Position-holders, our many volunteers and, of course Carol Teat our Administrator, and to Jerry Dechert who keeps our facility clean and "ready to go". We’ve welcomed a lot of wonderful new members, and our fiscal position is strong going into 2008. My best wishes go out to our 2008 Officers.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and safe and happy year in 2008.

Fair winds,
Dave Herrington
