As we approach the season and the end of the year (and yes, the end of our term as Social Directors) it is appropriate to reflect on the year and the things for which we are thankful. First of all, we are thankful for the end to the long drought. While the end came with an excess of water, which brought on a different set of challenges, at least we have water in our beautiful lake. Not only do we have plenty of water to enjoy in our recreation, but there is plenty of water available for people to have water necessary to live. Second, we are thankful for the bounty of enough to eat and drink. There are many people who lack the wherewithal to buy food and other necessities of life. We are truly blessed - we have food and beverage at our parties and we have plenty of resources - with enough left over to spend on our big expensive toys. Third, we are thankful we enjoy a network of people who share common interests - whether your boat is powered by the wind or by a powerful engine, we all love the water and all it represents. Sometimes we may have differences, but in the end, it all comes down to the water that draws us together. Fourth, we are thankful we have clubhouse that provides a refuge from the sun and heat in the summer and the cold of winter. Besides shelter, we have a place to shower and facilities to prepare meals. Actually, the clubhouse is one of the rare occasions to enjoy food cooked out on charcoal as we almost always grill on propane these days. Finally, Joy and I are thankful for the opportunity to serve the yacht club these past two years. We have made new friends and strengthened friendships with many members. This is one of the strongest benefits of taking on a responsibility of this nature. Best wishes for a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude. See you at the lake,! |
