In the words of John Ruiz, “We had ideal racing conditions” for our annual HCYC Tour-de-Canyon Long-Distance Race. In fact, this may have been the best racing day we’ve had so far in 2007. The weather forecast was for clear skies, temperatures in the mid to high-80s, low humidity, steady winds at 15 mph out of the south throughout the afternoon, and no chance of precipitation. Let’s hear it for the weatherman! Eight boats met me at the starting line for the 17.9 nautical mile race. Congratulations to Dick Edwards and his crew for taking the first place trophy in the Non-Spinnaker Fleet. Congratulations also Jeff Walne and his crew for taking the first place trophy in the cruiser fleet. The Tour-de-Canyon race results can be found on the website. A BIG thank you goes out to Charlie Teat and Jesse Murphy for planning and setting a magnificent race course. The racers did take a “tour” of much of Canyon Lake. A special thanks to Bill Webb for allowing me to use his Seaward 25, Allegro, as the Race Committee boat and for assisting me with the Race Committee duties. You guys are the best race committee a girl could ever have! I also want to congratulate Terry and John O’Connor who arrived on the race course in their new Corsair 28R trimaran, Weapon of Choice. Welcome back! To close out the 2007 HCYC racing season and my one-year tour of duty, the “Wild Turkey” Regatta will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007. In an effort to get all of the HCYC sailors either crewing or skippering in this regatta, the entry fee is just $15.00 per boat. For any sailor who has never raced at HCYC before, the entry fee is just $5.00 per boat. So sign up and come join us in the fun! The Notice of Race (entry form) is enclosed for your convenience. The Notice of Race is also available on the Sail Page of the HCYC website as well. It is my hope to see all of HCYC’s sailors either crewing or skippering in this regatta.
See you at the starting line, | ||||||||
