TThere are no newsworthy events or notable happenings with regard to the sailing program to report this month. The weather seems to be the only notable event, which certainly does not need to be reported since we all have been living it. Suffice it to say that this has been one of the rainiest summers on record for Comal County! As the torrential rains continued in the Hill Country, the lake level once again rose, and by Wednesday, July 25 th, the Canyon Park Road was under water. Needless to say, I was forced to cancel the fourth and final race of the Patriot Series. Congratulations to Derek Crawford and crew for taking first place in the Non-spinnaker Fleet, to Chip Taute and crew for taking first place in the Cruiser Fleet, and to Cheryl Pyle and crew for taking first place in the Big Boat Fleet. These skippers will receive their “Stars and Stripes” trophy during the HCYC Labor Day festivities on September 1st.Although the moon was big, bright, and orange on July 28 th for the Midnight Madness Race, there was too much debris in the lake to safely race at night. So I was forced to cancel the race. (By the way, the wind was zero to two knots so it would not have been much of a race anyway).I want to personally thank the marina management and staff for running a shuttle service between Cranes Mill Marina and Canyon Lake Marina so that we could get to our boats. We appreciate all the time and hard work that the staff put in during the time that the Canyon Park Road has been closed. Our next big sailing event is the Master’s Invitational Regatta on September 15 th. Thirty-six Canyon Lake skippers have been invited to participate this year. This regatta brings together those skippers who have won a trophy in any sanctioned keelboat race, regatta, or series on Canyon Lake during the past year. This race determines the ‘champion’ in each fleet.
See you at the starting line, | ||||||||
