by Pam Rudolph Walne,
Rear Commodore for Sail

As I sit here thawing out from the ice events of this week and writing the sailing scoop for the February Ship’s Log, I have one eye on tomorrow’s Canyon Lake weather forecast. The “Frostbite” Regatta promises to get our 2007 racing season off to a brisk start! Not to worry. As Martha Washington said, “I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances”. Remember, land was created as a place for boats to visit. We can still enjoy racing, even in bad weather! By the time you read this, it will be time to register for the “Chapped Cheeks” Regatta so complete your entry form and send it in now to reserve your place on the starting line.

Your Executive Committee has been hard at work developing our 2007 calendar of events. It’s going to be an active and fun-filled year for everyone.

We HCYC’ers have been invited to attend the LCYC sail training seminars. Check out the course and dates, and be sure to reserve your spot, space is limited.

Speaking of racing, how convenient is it that I have enclosed the Notice of Race for the HCYC Frostbite Regatta in this issue of the Ship’s Log? The Frostbite will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007. So while it's on your mind, why don't you fill out the registration form and send it to me now so that the proper number of trophies can be purchased and presented immediately after the race. By the way, since I would like to see more racing events at HCYC, I will be proposing a regatta each month when next year's calendar is created.

I’ll see you at the lake,
Pam
