Happy new year! I trust you have made your New Year's resolutions and have by now resolved to quit making New Year's resolutions. Joy & I are delighted to be your Social Directors for another year and hope that you are pleased that we accepted another year of that responsibility. The 2007 Executive Committee has started making plans for events through out the year. So if you have ideas, now is the time to voice them. The Social Director's job is quite broad in its responsibilities. Though we do not choose the dates for parties, it is our job to plan the parties - which includes purchasing the drinks and preparing the food. We do this on a defined budget so buying jug wine and our favorite brand of beer "On Sale" is a budget stretcher. Fortunately, Joy has experience estimating how much is needed, and cooking for large groups, so we have had little waste, except on those occasions when attendance at a party has been lower than expected. The Social Directors are also responsible for securing entertainment for our parties. Once again, live bands are expensive, even though the individual band members do not leave with much money in their pockets. If you know of a band who is up for an easy gig that includes beer and a good dinner, please send me the names by e-mail to mchrism@gvtc.com or by phone 210-326-5824. As Social Directors we will continue to look to you, our club members to volunteer and share in the party responsibilities. If every member would commit to pitch in to help clean-up just once during the year, the task will be very easy. Besides, you will likely have some great fun and make some new friends in the process. Best wishes for a great year of safe boating. See you at the lake, |
