As we welcome in 2007, I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season. I’d like to express a heartfelt thanks to Past Commodore Sam Fisher and the 2006 Executive Committee for a job well done in guiding HCYC to a fun and successful 2006. Your 2007 Officers are planning an eventful year, including all of your favorites from previous years and maybe a few surprises.

We invite each of you to get involved in any way you’d like. There are countless opportunities to participate in both sail and power boat events, parties, raft-ups, dinners, seminars and many other activities throughout the year. If you feel you are not able to participate in an event, how about volunteering to help the event coordinator? That’s a great way to meet people too!

The HCYC Calendar of Events is updated on our website regularly (thanks to Charlie Teat) and will be published in the Member Handbook in late Winter / early Spring. If you have ideas for a new event, please let me or one of the Officers know. All suggestions are welcomed.

With all the attention lately on high winds, broken dock lines and damaged boats, here’s a great website called Animated Knots by Grog (http://www.animatedknots.com). It has lots of good information, is easy to use, and is fun for both adults and kids.

Speaking of kids (subtle set-up, huh?), we are searching for a Youth Program Director (or Directors) for 2007. Anyone interested, please let me know.

Finally, although it’s winter, there are still plenty of things going on at HCYC and Canyon Lake. Start the year off right—celebrate New Year’s at the clubhouse! Come on out and join the fun.

Fair winds,
Dave Herrington
